    505 505 CloudPulse Strategies

datamation_logoTuesday I had the pleasure of participating in a great discussion about private cloud, hosted by James Maguire of Datamation. I was in great company — also participating were Andi Mann (CA), Gordon Haff (Red Hat), Kurt Milne (VMware) and Mark Thiele (Switch).

If you’re interested in private cloud, be sure to check it out. We covered a wide range of topics including “why do private cloud projects fail?” and “does private cloud really save money?”

If you are concerned about security issues, whether you are considering private or cloud options, it is important that your selected service provider has a SAS70 certification. The CSCC, ODCA and NIST also agree that the higher the level of SAS70 of your provider, the better. SAS70 stands for Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70, which is a widely recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). This standard acquired higher importance as it met the requirements of Section 404 set forth by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Most of the time the private cloud options meet the standards more by the book but it is not always true. Make sure to do your due diligence.
